Carpet stains can be difficult to remove.
Carpet stains can be difficult to remove.
When you are packing your belongings to give to your moving company, it is necessary to examine your entire apartment for damages. Anything that was there before you arrived is alright to not worry about, but there could be things that you caused that will need to be fixed. One of the trickiest parts of cleaning up is getting rid of carpet stains. Not fixing this issue may cost you a lot of money that you want to get back from your security deposit. If you spill something on the carpet, you should try and clean it up as soon as possible. This will give you the best chance to make it look like nothing ever happened. However, this isn't always possible, as you may not have been able to clean it up completely. If there is juice spilled on the carpet, it could be removed with a warm, wet cloth and dish detergent. You may need to scrub for a while, let it dry and then repeat the process multiple times. It is likely that you will be able to see the spot showing up less and less each time.Nail polish spills can be more difficult, as this sticks to the carpet well. Your best bet may to be to use a small amount of nail polish remover on the area, as this could loosen up the material. It also could be a good plan to use soap and water to try to cut down on the stain's visibility.Alternative options to fix the carpetIf you still cannot get the stain out, it may be time to call a professional carpet cleaning company. Depending on how damaged the carpet is, this could be a better idea than actually leaving it for your landlord to deal with. Those who live in an apartment currently, and don't have plans to leave, may want to hide the stain if it won't come out. If the stain is in the middle of the carpet, it may be difficult to hide, unless you have a coffee table that can cover that area well enough. However, if it is in an area that doesn't sit in the middle of the room, you may be able to rearrange furniture to conceal the stain. Those planning to leave an apartment at some point, though, should make every effort to clean it up as best they can. Landlords will likely find any concealed stains after a resident moves out, and may very well deduct the cost to clean them from a security deposit.
